The first thing you should do is to decide on what type of products you want to sell. Choose something you are interested in and feel comfortable selling. Step 2: How to select the Best Affiliate Programs

When selecting an affiliate program, keep the following points in mind:

1.Check out the merchant's website and ensure it is attractive. Check the sales letter/page, is it written well and what kind of sales pitch they're using. Look to see if there be a number of spelling and grammatical errors, you will probably not want to promote a product that has sales page full of errors. Sending potential customers to such a page might immediately turn them off. 

2. Look at the average sale amount. Products that pay a large commission per sale but have a low rate of sales volume may not be very good for you. A good example is a mortgage. Also, a 50% commission on product that is only selling for $10 will probably not worth promoting. However, there are many products that pay $50, $100, and $200 for each click that leads to a sale and with admiring volume! Examples of these are found in categories such as

• Dental and Medical Plans
• Diet programs & Nutritional
• Insurance
• Web Hosting Services
• Tech Products
• Loans
• And so on.

There are more options for you in choosing the categories that will be more suitable for you and I suggest you do more research.  

3. Look at the sales commission. Is the commission one time only, or is it recurring? Recurring commissions, for products involving a monthly subscription, are much more preferred over single, one-time commissions, for a number of reasons.

4. Check the refund rate. Does the product has a high refund rate? If it is, then avoid promoting it because it usually means the product is inferior and many people are requesting for a refund.. Not all affiliate programs provide this statistic to their affiliates. If they don't have it, just keep an eye on the product as you make sales.

5. Look for affiliate programs that use cookies. You want to make sure you are credited for every visitor you refer to the merchant's site that buys something. An affiliate program that uses cookies will be able to track a visitor coming from your site. If they don't buy something right away but return at a later date and make a purchase, you will still get the commission. If the affiliate program does NOT use cookies, you will only be credited with a commission if the visitor buys something when they come directly from your site. If the visitor returns at a later date to make a purchase, you will get credited.

Internet marketing can be done freely or you can spend money on your marketing efforts, that is totally down to  you.

The only money I would say you HAVE to invest is to purchase a guide (a good one) and without one could take you several months just gathering information. To get things right quickly and to make money more quickly, you will need a need a guide and a very good one.

I usually recommend the affiliate handbook because it guides you on everything you need to know and do to succeed.

Step 3: Creating an Affiliate Website

Now it's time to decide on how you will present your website to your visitors.

It is usually best to make a content-rich site that offers a lot of information and value to your visitors. The search engines love these types of sites, which will provide qualified traffic; plus, having useful information for your visitors will help you to the pre-sell to your customers which will greatly leads to your affiliate links being clicked.

A content-rich site can be anything that provides useful information concerning the theme of the products you want to sell. You can write articles about your niche, review products or courses available in your niche. Usually, what you write about should be about or related to the product you want to promote. You can also create a blog based around your niche. You just need to create something, anything that adds to the content of your site. Note: Having the best content, or a potentially hot product on your website will not mean a thing if no one ever visits it.
